Sally's fish

Is it wrong that I just tried to see if you can overfeed the fish on Sally's blog and kill them? Good news - you can't. Sally - I'm sorry I tried...

accidental baby carrier

I have accidently bought yet another baby carrier. I couldn't resist, I tried, I swear! I had been talking about, if I had another baby, buying a wrap around style baby carrier (although it seemed slightly fiddly). Then when we were at Nest Nappies at Paddington (me attempting to talk Matt into swapping to cloth nappies - still a work in progress), I came across the close baby carrier. Basically acts exactly like the wrap arounds, only it's got two set of rings. Awesome. Put Xander in it and wandered up to the biome store and around the place in general.

Also it turns out that they sell one of my other favourite ever slings - the catbirdbaby pikkolo! So if anyone is thinking of buying one you don't have to order it online after all! You can go and touch and feel and try it all out. So here it is, I now have the complete set of baby slings.

1. Close baby carrier - good for a snug swaddled feel, but can do bigger babies inward and outward carry
2. Maya Wrap (ring sling) - so versatile, so simple, so important, I barely know where to begin. Better for times when you want baby lying down rather then upright. But really does it all - chest to chest, cradle carry, kangaroo carry (outward carry), hip carry, and if you are confident and have a cooperative child - back carry. The sling that started my love of slings!
3. My Pikkolo (catbirdbaby brand). Similar in style to ergo but a thousand times better. Not as bulky, more comfortable, does outward facing carry (as well as inward, back, and hip). Funky colours, easy to use. Can carry baby for hours and hours comfortably, even if baby is heavy. Has an option for a big hip belt to support even more as baby gets bigger. Does newborn to oh my goodness why is that mother carrying that fat child who can walk on their own size.

Also if you are considering cloth nappies and you live in Brisbane, the lady at Nest Nappies is super helpful and you can touch and feel lots of different ones. Thanks to Gam and Sarah for pointing me in the direction of this store.

Oh and everyone should go to Marcia's on Montague at West End. It's a kitchen shop (with awesome kitchen stuff) but they have Eric Carle baby toys which are like lamaze toys only they are the characters from the Eric Carle books (caterpillar, ladybug, elephant). I can't overemphasize how hard it was to resist buying them. But Xander has a number of lamaze toys and at the moment he ignores them all and picks up wooden blocks to hit things with instead, so I really couldn't justify it.

I think I am now banned from the shops. Did I mention I have bought one cloth nappy to try??? We'll see how it goes..

Parenthood

Xander is now 8 months old, I have been nurturing him and loving him for 17 months. I have a new perspective on life I didn't have before. So now I think is an appropriate time to say sorry to my parents. Sorry for those difficult years where I was ungrateful to the point of hatefullness. Where I questioned your love to me and said hurtful things.

When I gaze at Xander as he breastfeeds and he gazes back at me with that trust and peace in his eyes, or when his face lights up at the sight of Matthew, I know these are the moments that I will hold dear to my heart. But of course, Xander will not remember them at all. And I just can't imagine how I will feel when it goes from this moment to those defiant years where they look back at you with angry eyes and ask you if you really even love them. How those moments must have hurt my parents.

So thank you. Thank you for all the love and nurturing you poured into me from before I can even remember. Thank you for always having my best interests at heart. Thank you for all the continued love and nurturing you still provide 30 years on. Sorry for all the times I threw all that back in your face. I love you both.
